Working in the heat? Stay hydrated!

The weather is heating up so it is important that you remain well hydrated.

When it is hot, everyone needs to drink more water, whether you are working indoors or outdoors and regardless of how active you are.

Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to have a drink. Frequent smaller drinks of cooled water is better than infrequent large drinks.

SafeWork NSW recommend a small cup (200ml) of cool water every 15 to 20 minutes. Remember to drink cool water, not cold as it may cause stomach cramps. Avoid excessive caffeine and sugary drinks as these can have a diuretic effect and increase fluid loss.

By prioritizing hydration, you are not only safeguarding yourself from the immediate risk of heat-related illness but also ensuring sustained productivity and well-being.
